PI Delanie Fitzgerald, weary of investigating insurance fraud and chasing after cheating spouses, is thrilled when two new jobs come her way. She is hired by sleazy strip club owner Chaz Wellington to find out who is blocking his permits to open a new strip club in a ritzy area. Chaz is convinced the mayor is behind it and wants Delanie to “get the goods” on the mayor so he has some bargaining power. When the mayor turns up dead and Chaz is arrested, Delanie’s investigation changes direction as she goes after a murderer. Her other new case turns out to be a very personal one. As a kid, she loved teenage rock star Johnny Velvet and his band. His death decades earlier from a fiery crash devastated his fans, Delanie included. Delanie is hired by a California tell-all author to look into the possibility of Johnny still being alive and well and living in her area. Is the man Delanie starts a relationship with the real Johnny? I very much enjoyed this story. Delanie is extremely likable. She’s intelligent, strong, definitely capable, and doesn’t let others push her around. She followed leads that, at times, put her in danger. If she was the usual ‘amateur sleuth’, I would have been rolling my eyes and thinking: “Come on! Who would follow that crazy man? What’s wrong with you?” LOL. However, the fact she is professional makes what she does work. She takes precautions, lets people know where she is going, and cooperates with the police, when needed, and within reason. I enjoyed watching her get to know John and loved her interactions with Duncan.
This fast-paced and exciting story is well written. It boasts engaging characters, a great setting (I would love to participate in the RVA First Fridays Art Walk!!), and interesting plots. I read this book in one sitting and was sorry when it ended. I went searching, and it looks like there is a second book in the works. I’m looking forward to reading more adventures starring Delanie and Duncan and hope the next book is released soon. Happy reading!

Enjoyed Ms. Weidner's debut mystery novel. Looking forward to her next one.
Good pacing, interesting characters and an engaging plot. A very enjoyable read!
If you enjoy a crime thriller, this book is for you. Set in Richmond, VA, you will feel like you're right there in the heart of Virginia as Delanie Fitzgerald navigates a few complicated cases she has accepted as a Private Investigator. Eventually, she has to figure out how these seemingly different cases are connected, and fight for her life in the process. It's a quick read and will leave you ready for Heather Weidner's next book!
What I liked about this book was it wasn’t just one drawn out story. The author did a good job of writing two major story lines, and breaking them up with other short investigations.
I normally don't read fiction, however, since the author is a long time friend I wanted to support her and read her work. Generally fiction bores me - this work DID NOT!!! I couldn't put it down ! The main character is witty and interesting and is surrounded by supporting characters that leave you interested in knowing them better. Generally 30% of the way through fiction I either start skimming or stop reading all together...this held my attention until the end. Kudos Heather! You're an extremely talented author and I look forward to following your work for years to come.
The mystery was very well done. Obviously well thought out. And layered enough to keep my interest , which sometimes isn't easy to do. Anyone in the Richmond area would love this book in particular because it is filled with landmarks recognizable to even me, who does not live in Richmond, but has visited frequently . I liked Delaney and I'm looking forward to reading more about her. And I hope Johnny comes back into the picture. I think he belongs there. I also loved the frequent references to animals. Heather Weidner is obviously a lover of animals.

It's a case involving John, a handsome man who she's attracted to. But is he really a leader of an 80s rockband who may have faked his death? As she follows the clues to solve her cases, the danger escalates and she rightly fears for her safety..
This is a well written, engaging mystery. I recommend it highly.
